A Christmas message from WCCU

As it comes to a close, I think many of us would agree that 2016 has been a difficult and challenging year. Brexit and the election of a new US president are the big national and international events that will impact upon us all, though in what ways, who can tell? The world may have changed in 2016 and there may be more seismic shocks ahead, but I take comfort in the certain knowledge that if things get tough, we can depend on the enduring values of the credit union.

We were founded on principles of people helping people. When we come together to help and support each other, we can weather the storms ahead. And we’re in good shape to do so…

In 2016, more of us have come together to join the credit union, to save regularly and borrow affordably. We have welcomed hundreds of new members from across the WV postcode areas we serve. We have strengthened relationships with our employer partners, enabling more members to save straight from their salary and access ethical loans. We’ve introduced online banking and a mobile banking app to make our unique not-for-profit financial services more convenient.

And to conclude the year, we’ve donated £250 and pledged our support for an emergency night shelter for homeless people. I feel proud that many of our members have supported this Christmas appeal with individual pledges of cash and volunteer time.

The loyalty and commitment of our members continue to inspire the development of the credit union. You make us what we are. So, on behalf of the Board of Directors, I’d like to thank you very much for your continued support and to wish you a very happy Christmas and a peaceful New Year, no matter what it brings.

Alf Williams, Chair, Board of Directors
